Voting elections

voting/elections

I believe that limiting voting for people is extremely counterproductive and hasty and possibly more. I believe that both sides increasing voter turn out is the best way to make voting for more fair. I also believe that it would be cool if it became legal to have people vote as many times as they want for a candidate like how Wikipedians vote for Arbcom candidates as many times as they want in Arbcom elections each year.

While I support the electoral college I believe we need a system for our country where we have a direct democracy which allows people to directly vote on things as opposed to representive democracy that we currently have (the reason I am open to direct democracy is because representive democracy is open to abuse by special interests and political influence) and where the laws of short enough for people to know what they mean.

The Georgia voting id law by Republicans is not racist and not meant to hurt blacks. It is a recationary law to stop what Republicans perceive as 'voter fraud'. Any damage those type of laws do to black voters is due to reactionary punitive paranoia, not intential disenfranchisement. Instead of going nuts over that law, why not try to find ways to exploit and circumvent it to help us Democrats win every election in Georgia? (half glass full)

I am fine with ids not being required to vote

I believe voters should be required to show their voter registration card when they vote

I am very open minded/open hearted to Joe Manchin's mid 2021 compromise on voting laws which would include a flexible national voter ID mandate. This would require voter ID nation wide to vote with allowable alternatives (like utility bill) to prove identity to vote. Washington Post stated here https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/06/21/democrats-voter-id: "There is an emerging school of thought that even stricter voter ID rules may not be as suppressive as many Democrats once warned"

I support strict reading of the voter rolls.

I believe and think we can all agree that people should be required to register to vote.

Stacy Abrams had some decent (moderate to left center) views on voting rights that I can get behind

Prison inmates should only vote if they are imprisoned within their voting electorate or are close to being released from prison

Convinced felons who are released from prison shouldn't be able to vote unless they prove that they are reformed or enough time has passed that they are no longer a threat to repeat

I am against Rashida Tlaib's illogical and impulsive proposal to empty prisons. Prisons (all prisons) should be a fixture of society and getting rid of prisons is bad. If she wants to stop prisons from filling up, she needs to create programs which help prevent potential criminals from becoming criminals

I do not support the Electoral College being removed or replaced

I am apolitical to mixed on Instant runoff voting

I conditionally generally support first past the post voting

I am against DC becoming a state.

Based on what the powerful Corporate media machine(the same one that smeared Bernie and continues to smear actual leftists to preserve the establishment bourgeois DINOs) ,Wikipedia(who only uses those sources), and our government say about the 2020 Presidential election being won legally by Joe Biden and that there was no election steal by Joe Biden and the Democrats, I have to go by those sources and say I have no reason to believe that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen by Joe Biden and the Democrats. It would be fun to have a contrarianist view of that election to say that it was ‘stolen’ by the Democrats and Joe Biden because it is fun to ‘counter cultural’ snd against the mainstream. I will note that a lot of people you never would except actually believe that the 2020 Presidential election was 'stolen' by the Democrats and Joe Biden (not that I believe them because I really don't). We need to focus on making all elections in the future as secure, fair and open as possible.

People have a right to believe that the 2020 election was stolen by Democrats and Joe Biden or that the 2004 election was stolen by the Republicans and George W Bush or that the NFL rigged the 2001 season to give the New England Patriots a Super Bowl championship. Those type of people should not be shamed, ostractized or trashed for their beliefs (as long as those beliefs don't cause harm to others or infringe on others rights). It's best to let them be and fight over important issues that effect everyone.

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and birthers are wrong for saying otherwise.  Hillary Clinton's campaign started this birther nonsense. Obama himself not being clearer and more forthcoming (not that he needed to but it certainly would have helped shut up those birther nuts faster) didn't help the matter.

Maybe those birthers were talking about alternate reality Barack Obama. According to the Many Worlds Interpretation, every person from our reality who was born in the US past present or future has clones in other realities who were born outside of North America.

I have no issues with that reporter who asked Kamala Harris if she was eligible to be President, since that reporter was tricked by alt right trolls to ask that dumb question. Unlike birthers with Obama, that reporter was an innocent victim of trolls and who didn't do his research before asking the dumb question. Barack Obama and Kamala Harris are both more American than most Republicans are due to Obama and Harris's compassion, tolerance, charity and other American values they espouse, their knowledge and respect for American history,  and them connecting with people in all walks of life in all areas of the US , all things that I consider to be as American as apple pie.

The reason many migrants are liberal is because a lot of countries that migrants come from are liberal, especially Central America-South American countries like Nicaragua (ie Daniel Ortega, Sandinistas)  Venezuela and Asian countries like China and Japan. This isn't a bad thing, as it helps our side. If Republicans were more pro migrant, they would be able to increase migration from conservative countries to balance that out, but instead they are too busy trying to close our border and shoot themselves in the foot
